It's all about the social skills

It's all about the social skills

Mama and daddy are not very social creatures. They enjoyed the fact their their child seemed to be the same. But something has changed in him lately. Kai has gotten very serious about his socializing. Instead of ignoring the big kids at the park, Kai is now running after them and copying what they are doing. Most of them ignore him. Some of them show him how to play with them. A few of them let him know they don’t want to play with him. Since Kai is so interested in interacting with other kids, park play has now become a crucial part of his social development. As is one other weekly activity, tea parties in the forest!

A Mad Tea Party
Every Wednesday, mama and Kai have been meeting our friends at Olinda Forest to drink, eat, and explore together. We start out with tea and snacks then we do a simple activity while exploring the forest. We spend hours climbing, jumping, wrestling, collecting, sharing, laughing, and enjoying our time together. Kai is so lucky to have this be part of his weekly routine.

Baaaaaby Chef Do Do Do Do Do Do…
Kai is obsessed with cooking! He has spent the last few weeks cooking us Various Small Toy Soup (a baby chef delicacy), but he is starting to get bored of practice cooking. So mama and daddy are doing their best to let their toddler become more involved in real cooking. He’s surprisingly pretty good.

Books
Mama made a book.

We’re so tired of reading this book.

He can count!
…In Cantonese! Mama can’t get him to say more than “two” in English, but in Cantonese…

More social interactions
Daddy’s best friends visited from Portland this weekend so Kai had to play tour guide. He showed them how where to eat, how to beach, and how to have fun.

The Babysitters Club
Cullen and Alden came over while their daddy got a haircut. Kai and Cullen ran around like maniacs while Alden was happy being a little bug on the floor. Mama and daddy got a taste of what it would be like if they had three kids. The answer is loud. It would be loud.

Chores! We still do them
We are not always consistent about doing the same chores every day. It doesn’t seem to stop Kai from doing them. He really enjoys participating in keep the house clean. He still feeds the pets and puts away his toys. He helps mama vacuum. He helps cook. He washes dishes. He helps empty the dishwasher. He was even enthusiastic about helping mama pick up poop around the yard. She let him pick up leaves instead. :)

We love animals!
Mama and daddy aren’t much for growing plants and raising livestock but they do live upcountry. We are surrounded by farms and gardens and wild chickens so Kai has lots of opportunity to play with animals. He’s a pretty lucky kid.

Bonus pics!
