Post are every other week now.
Mama hasn’t posted for a while because she is having trouble coming up with new things Kai is doing in just a week. Before it seemed Kai was changing every second but now Kai is slowing down. That doesn’t mean he isn’t changing! He plays differently, his language is improving, and how he interacts with others is different too. Kai continues to add new words and has even begun putting two words together on his own like “mama book”, “papa juice” and “big wave”. For the past few weeks, Kai has been hitting things and people when he gets upset. Recently, he hit mama in the face. She did not like that. Most times, when she would tell him, he would just ignore her. On Saturday, he heard her. His lip curled up and he made the saddest face you’d ever see. Mama told him he could say “sorry” and give her a hug. Then he gave mama a hug that would melt the iciest of hearts. He hasn’t hit mama since.
I’ll do it… eventually
Kai is well within the stage of “I wanna do it myself”. He wants to put on his own clothes, get his things by himself, and choose when he does it. Mama usually plans to take an hour and a half to get ready in the morning. The amount of things hasn’t changed. Kai is just painfully slow.
I use my imagination
When Kai used to play, he had toys that were very literal (the ball goes in the hole, the pieces go on the puzzle board). Now he has works that allow him to be more creative, like painting and drawing. He build with blocks and he plays pretend. Recently, daddy heard Kai pretend his baby was crying. Mama took Kai to Tinkergarten with Cullen and Joshua and they learned how to make “stone soup”. Now Kai takes the rice pot, adds a few cooking utensils or puzzle pieces or cars, and makes us try his “soup”.
Just a boy who love his daddy
Mama just can’t handle how sweet her two loves are when they spend time together. Daddy takes a lot of time out of his day, even when he works, to play with Kai and teach him new things. What a lucky little bug.
“Homeboys through the summer, winter, spring, and fall”
Kai has become much more social over the past few weeks. He wants us to play with him so we play chase and hide. He wants to play with his friends so they play trucks or ride bikes or put sand in each other’s hair. Kai and Cullen got lots of play dates in recently. Finally, Cullen has a friend who will actually play with him!
Family visits
Surprise! Daddy’s family came over! Auntie Winnie missed Kai so much she booked a quick flight so she could play with her favorite nephew. Then Wa wa and Yei yei decided to come over too! Kai was very excited to see his Wa wa and Yei yei! He recognized them as soon as he saw them.
He also got a pretty cool present from Wa wa and Yei yei.
He got his first brain-freeze
Kai loves him some acai bowls. Sometimes, mama buys one and lets him eat it by himself. One day he learned he should slow down when he eats cold things.
He did other things.
Wore daddy’s basketball shoes. Watched movies like a boss. Cried. Pretended to sleep. Wore hats. Did yard work. Took off his clothes at inappropriate times. Drank tea. Made cornbread. Unleashed his inner scientist. Said “cheese”. Looked so cute on his bike.
Throwback
Mama had to include this super sweet photo Uncle Miguel took of Kai climbing on all their things… and two pictures of him playing nicely with Emilia and Samuel.
