Oh, hey. I didn't see you over there.
This kid... Just when we think we've got him all figured out, BAM! he hits us with some new stuff. Kai has become a little less ornery as of late and replaced his constant crying with endless chatting. He wanders around talking to himself. He gives us a long string of sounds then waits for us to respond. Mama has yet to get it on video but it's weird and cute at the same time. Kai understands both English and Cantonese now. Just the other day, mama caught him trying to ask to brush his teeth in Cantonese before switching to English for her. Kai is changing in a big way. Mama and daddy are both excited to see what the next coming weeks have in store for their little bean.
Sticking to the schedule
Kai now has a stricter (and more predictable) weekly schedule to give him a basic understanding of time and predictability. We have weekly playdates and field trips to fun places like the Ocean Center, beach, or story time at the library on the same day every week. But, most importantly, mama has decided to dedicate two days of the week to helping Kai do focused play and learn new skills. Right now we are focused on learning shapes, colors, counting, singing, and motor skills.
MY mama!
Mama has noticed that Kai is having a difficult time sharing his mama. He didn't like mama holding Jack when we visited for dinner. He was DEFINITELY not ok with sharing her with the newest addition to the Mabbutt clan, no matter how precious he was.
He's a bit of a copycat...
It seems Kai has been paying close attention to what we say and do. This week, mama said, "Oh. My. God." and immediately heard it parroted back to her. GG told Kai to stop stepping on her boobies. Much to GG's dismay, Kai pointed to her stomach and said, "boobies?". Papa and mama thought it was hilarious. Mama has caught him taking bottles from the recycling, opening the dishwasher, and pretending to pour dishwashing liquid in the soap compartment. He's also figured out a few other things Mama and daddy weren't expecting.
He's becoming a kid
Kai is less and less of a baby these days. He's chompin' on whole apples, keeping up with the big kids at the park, holding hands, watching Sesame Street with Papa, eating spam musubi (well, he took out the spam and seaweed so he could eat just the rice), buckling all the things, eating with a fork and spoon like it ain't no thang, playing with daddy, and just being as independent as a little boy can be who is still nursing and kind of attached to his mama.
One last thing...
Look at those curls.
